Trío - A Visual Mixtape and Interview with the Artist Naive Supreme
Gata presents The DJ Set TRIO by the hand of the visual artist Naive Supreme.
Fresh beats for the summer and fresh ass-prints are available now.
We had the pleasure to chat with the Spain-based artist about censorship and other exciting topics.
GATA: Hi Sam, can you tell the GATA family who is ‘Naive Supreme’?
NS: She’s a mermaid, he’s a witch doing unforgivable stuff
GATA: Where does the name come from?
NS: After years of having eclectic names I just wanted something more descriptive, I like to play Naive and I’m the best at it
GATA: You are an artist and musician; when did you start creating in that disciplines, and why?
NS: I studied classical music and jazz piano, but on my graduation day, I went to meet a producer friend who introduced me to this techno collective of german punks, and I ended up not leaving their place for like 5 days. Since then, I’ve been meeting people and not doing what I was supposed to do, as I hate authority and the mundane. The rest is what’s left of me.
GATA: Why is it essential for you to always be fully creative with your visuals alongside your music?
NS: I hate wasting a moment in life without content, I’m that bitch sending you memories from 7 years ago on Google Photos, so I might as well be consequent with my personality in my work. I love spending the afternoon filming videos, doing photos, editing on my phone .. and when I’m not doing that I’m making music, if I put the two together I have a lot of fun PLUS I get to share a very ‘honest’ content which I’ve created for myself and others.
I feel like also I’m not a master at everything, but I’m good at doing me, so as long as we can have a healthy, honest relationship together, all creativity will make sense.
GATA: Where do you take your inspiration from?
NS: I like to try new things all the time, I have to keep my inner ADHD child entertained or else I’ll fall into a hole of existential doubt that I simply can’t handle, I would rather be at the beach eating rocks and filming it.
Once I find myself in these moments of entertainment, I can try anything, I can be anything, and anyone, alone or with people, and that’s really inspiring to be able to try the new and the different.
GATA: Now let's talk about the exciting topic: CENSORSHIP; what can you tell us about censorship in social media?
NS: I can’t tell you anything cause you can’t speak about CENSORSHIP while on social media; I can maybe whisper it to you when I see you again but even audio notes inside any platform are vocal data to understand you better and to manipulate you to buy Balenciaga.
GATA: What are the platforms that nowadays allow you to be fully creative?
The deep web.
The video for the mixtape has been quite controversial on my brain these days. As you see, its hosted on Zora as an NFT, as I couldn’t find a single social media platform without any censorship rules - I’ll list them below -
The video for ’trío’ is simply a sequence of a 2-day twerk session with alien slime; I wanted to simulate a sexy new alien being just living their best life testing out ‘human toys’ on earth. Other than the slow-mo striptease, this video is not even one of my most explicit ones, but it seems more acceptable to host a video of the police smashing a gay guy vs some ass with slime; I don’t understand what the point is of all these rules if they are not stopping us from violence, just repressing sexuality -which causes more violence- sad.
INSTAGRAM - IG has turned into your dad’s older, weirder friend with bad intentions. He lives in a penthouse in Chicago probably, and your dad or uncle is his only friend. These people wouldn’t want to see any gay guy’s ass covered in slime, so I break about 24 Instagram rules by uploading this video on there. Not even linking it as on IG, you can’t advertise or suggest any type of sexual behaviour, such as a slimy alien ass
PATREON - they have a policy of ‘porn vs art’, so porn is not allowed, but you can be naked ‘if you are acting artistic, not sexually’. Sorry Patreon, I didn’t know there was a naked police and that for using this platform, I need to be judged by some random person in a mainstream office. Thank u, next
ONLY FANS - only fans is in a weird hole where you can upload uncensored material, but not violence. Piss and blood are not allowed on OF, their type of CENSORSHIP is not about sexuality, but it exists against violence and piss, the opposite of instagram’s policies. Also, you can’t promote OF even if you bake cakes on any social media platform other than Twitter.
TUMBLR - you know, I know, everybody knows what happened. The second they decided to stop a creative platform from having full creativity, such as publishing naked people and porn, everyone left. Everyone left and never came back, and I feel that’s happening again; if posting content is not exciting for the content creator but ALSO SCARY, no one is going to want to use your shitty, mentally torturous platform.
TWITTER - the one platform where all is allowed is full of hate, basic straight white men and very angry people with a lot to say. Their use of CENSORSHIP as a company is more target-located, like Donald Trump, their marketing is having freedom of CENSORSHIP to CENSOR who they choose as in normal circumstances everyone is allowed and everything for the sake of news, trends and twitter’s revenue.
This is cool, and it’s a cool company when they CENSOR Trump; we can all agree on that, that he shouldn’t exist on any platform, but when you agree to CENSOR someone, you agree with the fact that you want to live in a digital dictatorship as in real life no one can stop you from existing unless they kill you or send you to jail.
FACEBOOK - lol, that’s where this whole problem started. When we gave away our creativity to a bunch of uncreative people.
TIK TOK - that’s where this problem is developing, but I like watching it, its the new TV / Youtube.
It feels like all ‘real state’ in the digital world has been already sold to Facebook and to a couple of random people who don’t know what to do, and we are running out of space before the Facebook police is at our door asking to watch us shower.
GATA: What three new rules would you create if you could be Instagram/Tik Tok responsible for a day?
NS: 1. Everything is allowed; I would love to see what people would post if you could post drugs and porn; would normal people upload their sex tapes and then do drugs? Or would they still hide it if it was publicly acceptable? Would they create new things? Or would we end up with really strange, intimate trends?
2. The possibility to be able to design your profile as you want it, no limits, no company branding, just colours and stuff.
3. If your post didn’t take emotional or creative effort, just don’t spam us; my CENSORSHIP would be about CENSORING lazy posts with no depth cause they are taking up space.
GATA: The rules of social networks are tougher and stricter regarding censorship when they become more mainstream and for all audiences as a way of 'protecting' the observer. Do you think that unlimited creativity lives only in the underground networks and will be something we will have to live with forever?
NS: People don’t wanna see cause they don’t want to look inside themselves; we need a French Revolution before we are free again. The underground is where things start, but the surface world right now is so blinded and fucked by trends, news, Twitter, IG and tik Tok that I feel I don’t want to be there; visit, yes, but it’s hard to stay there and very backwards. We need futurism, and the mainstream is too worried about their past-sism that they get anxiety looking forward.
This strictness has been progressive, and the only way out is to burn all social media and start again from zero; maybe in the nft space, it seems more welcoming of sex workers and hustlers like us.
GATA: Is there anything else you want to say?
NS: Depression = excessive past -ism,
Anxiety = Excessive Futurism,
Stress = Excessive Present -ism
Thanks <333
