GATA’s latest editorial taps into our primal and animalistic nature with a homage to the adults-only publication “Claws”
Featuring creative direction from Nini Barbakadze and Morrigan Rawson, this GATA-exclusive editorial draws inspiration from CLAWS, the archive adults-only periodical specialising in the provocative realms of “Apartment Wrestling”, “Hussies Grappling” and “Cat Fighting”. Though elusive and challenging to procure, remnants of this niche zine now linger in the form of weathered (and cum-covered) copies on platforms like The Top Shelf and Etsy, or as xeroxed copies nestled within the eclectic confines of East London’s Waste! Store.
Featuring model and muse Phebe Barclay alongside actor and model Jaylin Ye , the editorial loosely recreates and reinterprets the essence of CLAWS with a twist that subverts the original male gaze narrative of the zine. Showcasing the garments sourced from some of London’s most exciting independent designers and set against the derelict backdrop that looks like a reimagined mud wrestling ring, Barbakadze and Rawson’s CLAWS offers a glimpse into a clandestine world where boundaries blur and primal instincts reign supreme.
