MISSES GONE ROGUE: INSIDE THE MINDS OF M¥SS KETA & MISS BASHFUL

M¥SS KETA and Miss Bashful join forces on their new track, Hungover Girl, to craft an ode to the party girls (and gays, obviously). Despite their different cultural backgrounds, spanning Rome, Mexico City, and Texas, the two artists share the same core essence of unapologetic freedom, channeling their hedonistic spirit into a club anthem that celebrates life on the dance floor and its chaotic aftermath.

This love letter to the club takes shape in the Rome suburbs, where eccentricity meets the established traditions of suburban living, immersing us in an era that feels nostalgic yet still not completely gone. Hungover Girl challenges the idea that songs need to have a deeper meaning in order to be considered legitimate. In an era where mainstream pop has lost its playfulness and provocative edge, the misses are bringing fun back to pop music through their electronic sound.

GATA recently connected with M¥SS KETA and Miss Bashful to discuss their recent collaboration, creative approach to music, inspirations that have shaped their sound and stage personas, as well as what’s next to come.

GATA: Hey M¥SS KETA & Miss Bashful! For those who may not know you, could you briefly introduce yourselves?

M¥SS KETA: DIVA, WOMAN, PERFORMANCE ARTIST, IT GIRL, MOTHER AND RECENTLY  GRANDMOTHER.

Miss Bashful: I'm Miss Bashful a professional sexy talker and poet from Mexico and Texas living in Berlin

GATA: Let’s talk about your new single, “Hangover Girl.” It feels like a love letter to the chaos of nightlife. What was the first conversation you had about making this track together?

M¥SS KETA:  WE THOUGHT “HANGOVER GIRL” WAS THE PERFECT MATCH BECAUSE WE BOTH  CELEBRATE NIGHTLIFE IN ITS WHOLE IDEA: THE MORNING AFTER IS PART OF THE  STORY, TOO. AND OFTEN, CAN BE AN HARDER ONE.

Miss Bashful:  Well it's kinda chic being hungover and living in Berlin it's part of the daily life.. and I think  miss keta got me on the track because she knew I was a hangover girly like her

GATA: Nightlife has always been central to both of your work. How has your relationship with club culture changed over the years?

M¥SS KETA: ONCE UPON A TIME I HAD TO PAY FOR EVERYTHING AND CHASE TO GET IN, NOW  I’M PAID TO BE IN AND FREE DRINKS RENT FREE IN MY WALLET, I HAVE A FULL  COLLECTION! MY RELATIONSHIP AND ENTHUSIASM FOR THE DANCEFLOOR AND  ITS MUSIC HONESTLY HAS NOT CHANGED, ALWAYS ROARING.

Miss Bashful: My mom used to be a dancing queen in the 80s in Mexico City... it's in my blood to party hehe

Ive been Living in Berlin for almost a decade now and its such a huge part of the culture, its just the older I get the more tired I get and the hangovers become harder and longer  so a baddie is tired.

@myss.keta

GATA: You both have very distinct artistic identities. Were there times where your worlds naturally overlapped or where you pushed each other outside your comfort zones?

M¥SS KETA: WE RECOGNIZED EACH OTHER INSTANTLY: SAME HUNGER FOR FREEDOM, FUN, SELF EXPRESSION, DESPITE DIFFERENT LANGUAGES.

Miss Bashful: I mean we are both MISSES which pretty much sums it up

GATA: The video feels theatrical, glamorous, and completely unhinged. Was there a particular image, film, or memory that inspired its aesthetic?

M¥SS KETA:  I WOULD SAY “COYOTE UGLY” MEETS “EUPHORIA” IN ROME SUBURBS, WITH A Y2K VIBE. THE AMAZING DIRECTOR SIMONE BOZZELLI TRANSLATED THIS VISION FROM  OUR MIND TO FILM.

Miss Bashful: I filmed it in a bathroom in Houston Texas and they threw me on the screen but I  luvvv the video

GATA: What’s the most “M¥SS KETA” & “Miss Bashful” way a song has ever started: a text, a voice note, a night out, or a bad decision?

M¥SS KETA: MOST OF THE TIME, BAD DECISIONS. I LOVE THOSE. AND MANY BAD DECISIONS  LEAD TO A NIGHT OUT. AND MOST NIGHTS OUT LEAD TO INCREDIBLE VOICE  NOTES. VOICE NOTES BECOME VERSES. AND THE REST IS HISTORY.

Miss Bashful: a moan or evil laugh

GATA: How would you describe each other in three words?

M¥SS KETA: STRONG INDEPENDENT WOMAN

Miss Bashful: HUNG OVER GIRL

GATA: What’s something people misunderstand about being a “hot girl making music”?

M¥SS KETA: ART OFTEN SUFFERS FROM THE MISCONCEPTION THAT THE DRAMATIC, SAD, AND  SERIOUS IS INHERENTLY MORE NOBLE, WHILE THE PLAYFUL, COMEDIC, OR  PROVOCATIVE IS DISMISSED AS MINOR. IN REALITY, TRUE CULTURAL INSIGHT  REVEALS THAT ART HAS NO HIERARCHY. AFTER ALL, DANTE’S DIVINE COMEDY  ITSELF IS ROOTED IN SATIRE AND COMEDY.

ON TOP OF THAT I’M ALSO UNDENIABLY HOT, YEAH.

Miss Bashful: It's hard being hot .....

GATA: Do you have any studio rituals, or is chaos part of the process?

M¥SS KETA: I CANNOT TALK ABOUT MY STUDIO RITUALS, THEY’RE SECRET AND ILLEGAL (FROM  2022, ITALIAN LAWS CAN BE BRUTAL). BUT YES, CHAOS IS AN ACTIVE PART OF THE  PROCESS, AS OF MY LIFE.

Miss Bashful: I like going to studio around 2 pm and putting my thinking cap on and then leaving at a reasonable time, it's actually really challenging for me to write lyrics and to make them sound good ...

@myss.keta

GATA: After everything you’ve both created so far, what still excites you creatively? What feels unexplored?

M¥SS KETA: I AM HONESTLY TRYING TO ACHIEVE THE PERFECT RECIPE FOR MY SONGS, THAT’S  HONESTLY THE TEA. LIKE AN ICE CREAM MAKER WANTS TO BETTER ITS ICE  CREAM, APPLE WANTS TO BETTER ITS IPHONES, I WANT TO BETTER MY SONGS.  EATING ICE CREAMS, IF POSSIBLE.

Miss Bashful: I like exploring different genres that r unexpected, like I recently recorded a saddie but  baddie track

GATA: Do you have a toxic trait?

M¥SS KETA: DEFINITELY NOT, PEOPLE SAY I AM PERFECT.

Miss Bashful:

GATA: Tokyo would love your aesthetic. Have you been to Japan before, or do you have any plans to come to Japan soon?

M¥SS KETA: THE YEN SYMBOL IS IN MY NAME, THAT’S WHY I HAVE BEEN IN JAPAN IN MY  DREAMS EVERY NIGHT AND I WISH TO BE ASAP IN REAL LIFE. ARE U READY FOR  YOUR HOT M¥SS, TOKYO?

Miss Bashful: NO I WANNA , I wanna hire a boyfriend and grandma and actually a whole family would  be so cute

GATA: M¥SS KETA has always existed somewhere between mystery, performance art, and pop iconography. Why has anonymity remained so important to your artistic practice?

M¥SS KETA: LIVING THE HANNAH MONTANA DREAM HAS AN UNCONVENTIONAL EDGE THAT  GIVES IT A THRILL. I REALIZED WHAT A BLESSING IT WAS TO REMAIN HIDDEN AND  UNKNOWN IN A WORLD WHERE VISIBILITY HAS BECOME AN OBSESSION. AND IT’S BECOMING INCREASINGLY PROVOCATIVE IN THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD. LONG LIVE MISTERY!

@missbashful_xoxo

GATA: M¥SS KETA feels less like a stage name and more like an ongoing art project. Has your relationship with the character changed over the years?

M¥SS KETA: I SEE MY LIFE AS A WORK OF ART, A PERFORMANCE THAT I CREATE AND SHAPE  EVERYDAY. AND I AM CONSTANTLY EVOLVING, BECAUSE I ACKNOWLEDGE AND  DISCOVER ALWAYS MORE, SO I ALWAYS TRY TO PUSH THE BOUNDARIES, MINE IN  PRIMIS. I NEED TO SURPRISE AND CHALLENGE MYSELF, I WANT TO PUSH THIS  ARTISTIC RESEARCH IN EVERY CORNER I CAN.

GATA: Miss Bashful, before music you were already expressing yourself creatively in different ways. Do you feel like Miss Bashful was always there, just waiting for the right stage?

Miss Bashful: She has always been there .. she just needed to get to Berlin , strip and go clubbing ...

GATA: You’ve lived between Mexico City, Houston, and now Berlin. How have those different places shaped your music, your visual world, and the person behind Miss Bashful?

Miss Bashful: Berlin influenced the sound & freedom to express Mexico & Houston influenced the swag
