THE SKY IS EMPTY- A GATA shortfilm
Tokyo, a cold night, endless movement and endless faces.
With “The Sky Is Empty”, GATA presents a visual study of identity within the anonymity of the city, where the question is less about who we are and more about where we begin and where we end.
Everyone is no one, no one is everyone. For a moment, the distance between people seems to collapse, leaving behind a shared sense of presence, unstable, temporary.
Following Shino through the city, the film traces her movement through reflections, fragments, and repetitions, where direction becomes secondary to the act of moving itself. What remains is a feeling that resists definition, an ongoing state; an eternal if. It does not resolve, nor does it fully reveal itself.
What if the answer to this unnamed feeling, to this constant if, isn’t something waiting somewhere, but something that unfolds in the way towards it.
ALWAYS BEGINNING, ALWAYS ENDING
in their eyes
i am just as much
a part of the crowd
as they are in mine
