SEX IN THE HALL OF MIRRORS—FOUR CHAMBERS PRESETNS: ECHO CHAMBER
“The function of the mirror was... to make woman connive in treating herself as, first and foremost, a sight.
”
Echo Chamber is the latest visual experiment in sex, self-image and spectacle from the deviant minds of avant-garde pornographers, Four Chambers—a creative pornography project who, since their inception in 2013, has been pushing boundaries and exploring the intricate relationship between sex and the human condition.
A film as well as an art installation all wrapped up into one: Echo Chamber reveals a mirrored box designed to trap its occupants in an infinite hall of their own reflection. Faced with a world of overstimulation, claustrophobia and seduction, these performers are forced into a confrontation with themselves as both voyeurs and exhibitionists. The observer and the observed. Inside this box, there is no escape from the lustful gazes of both your own and the invisible audience leering in via the two-way mirrors. Sex becomes a distortion as bodies endlessly multiply into infinity.
As cam girls evolve into erotic streamers, the rolls of images filled with near-identical poses, so too did the technology of desire evolve and reshape not only how we have sex, but also how we watch ourselves engage in the activity. Echo Chamber poses the question: What happens when the tools of self-exposure turn back on us? What is left when the image overtakes our flesh?
Fin the eyes of Four Chambers, we are left with a self-made artistic spectacle. A museum vitrine that mimics the framed spaces of Francis Bacon’s figurative paintings. A confession and critique: an autoerotic maze for the digital age.
