GATA meets IKUMI TOKYO

IKUMI TOKYO is one of those brands able to bring you deep into its world.

With its flag store in Harajuku, IKUMI’S SHOP is the physical representation of its designer mind, the same-named misses Ikumi San.

With brick-walls and a playful-look apartment shop, you will find yourself surrounded by dolls, Magojiro masks and clothes hanging all over the place. From the bathroom to the shop’s kitchen and counter. There are no rules in this shop. And we loved that.

With a very strong aesthetic, IKUMI TOKYO has positioned itself as one of the underground’s brands that maintain an essence of the dark Tokyo movement, elevating it with its fine and well-finished garments. A brand that will help you explore your bittersweet side.

Gata: You have been working in the fashion industry for some time now, working as a model for a long time and now having your own fashion brand. How was for you the change from wearing the clothes to designing your own?

Ikumi: As a model you get to wear different clothes every day but I just wanted to create and see my favorite garments. I make the clothes I want to wear

Gata: IKUMI TOKYO has a very strong aesthetic; from your clothing to the shows, store and social media, this is very characteristic of the brand. How do you turn your inspiration into your collections?

Ikumi: My biggest inspiration is my every day life and all the things I love since I was a little kid. This is what I try to express through my clothes and the store atmosphere

Gata: Is there any inspirational movie you want to share with Gata?

Ikumi: Princess Mononoke
