Everyone has a “date” with death at some point, a last day on earth, a final farewell, because you can’t live forever after all. But what would you do if you actually dated death personified as the Grim Reaper? Gata presents “Mr. Grim and Me” an editorial shot in Tokyo, that explores love and death.
The Grim Reaper is death in visual form, a skeleton with a black robe, and sword-like looking scythe that is a big part of Western mythology from - he’s the guide that picks you up wherever you may be and escorts you into the beyond. He’s feared, he’s revered, and he’s also our elusive protagonist's partner for the day as they romantically stroll through the park, exchange cringy texts, eat a parfait at a coffee shop, stop at an arcade, and otherwise do the small but meaningful things any normal couple would do.
An eternal love story between the living and the dead. This shoot was inspired by a recurring dream, that repeated in different forms for a span of 7 years. Only by making the vision a tangible reality through photography and sharing it with others did the vision stop appearing.
Real life is always a bit surreal, and death is always around the corner. Why not have a last date with destiny?
